Ministry of Labor’s Employee Training Resources Help Central Taiwan's Bicycle Industry Create International Miracles
Approximately 81% of Taiwan's bicycle manufacturers are concentrated in Taichung and Changhua. Hongguang Industrial Co., Ltd., which originally focused on manufacturing bicycle pedals and components, lacked a system or concept for cultivating management talent. By chance, the company applied to the Labor Development Agency’s Central Taiwan Division for subsidies to implement on-the-job training programs. This not only helped the company navigate through economic downturns but also enhanced its knowledge of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sustainable practices. As a result, Hongguang successfully became a member of Taiwan’s "Bicycle Sustainability Alliance," joining local bicycle leaders in pursuing international sustainable operations and aiming to create new miracles for Taiwan's high-end bicycle sector.
With over 40 years of local development, Assistant Manager Huang of Hongguang Industrial Co., Ltd. stated that the company applied for the "Enterprise Human Resource Enhancement Program" and the "Recharge and Take Off Program" to facilitate employee training. Through guidance in utilizing the TTQS (Training Talent Quality System), the company established a training mechanism to refine its production processes and introduced smart management. This approach allowed the company to promptly adjust its operational strategies, effectively control costs, and accelerate its transformation and upgrading amidst economic challenges.
In response to the global ESG trend in recent years, the two major bicycle leaders, Giant and Merida, established the Taiwan "Bicycle Sustainability Alliance" in 2022, proposing ESG sustainability initiatives. Hongguang Industrial Co., Ltd. is also actively cultivating its employees' ESG-related competencies, planning a series of courses on corporate net zero, low-carbon transformation, carbon footprint assessment, and sustainable governance to enhance professional skills. The company is swiftly aligning with and striving to achieve its goal of joining the alliance, strengthening collaboration and communication with upstream and downstream enterprises in the high-end bicycle industry to compete internationally with advanced technologies and environmental concepts. Additionally, it aims to develop multifaceted talent equipped with language skills, business acumen, productivity, design capabilities, and innovation.
The Central Taiwan Division stated that it will hold several promotional briefings on "Subsidized Employee Training Programs" in Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou during October and November. Enterprises are encouraged to register actively, and details can be found on the division's official website under "Latest News."
